Genoa / Accanto

I liked the simple layout of the restaurant, although what may have stood out most...was the richness of the materials, some of which were older salvaged materials and others that were newer and polished. - Portland Architecture’s Brian Libby

A Portland fine dining staple since the 1970s, Genoa reopened its doors in 2009 alongside its sister cafe, Accanto. In collaboration with the new owner (and long-time Genoa patron), both spaces were completely stripped and rebuilt; the intimate dining room experience of Genoa is replicated with rich wood, a fireplace and soft lighting, while Accanto is a study in contrast of raw and polished materiality.
